Nothing is as beautiful as soft, smooth, healthy skin. Unfortunately, our skin is subject to numerous experiences that leave it less than perfect.
Time, heredity and gravity all do their part to create fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the mouth and eyes. Continued exposure to the sun and smoking are known to significantly accelerate the development of these natural signs of aging.
Skin Resurfacing
Some skin resurfacing devices, such as CO2 lasers, use the ablative method: removing the epidermis and some of the dermis. While a good result is eventually seen, the drawbacks include red, raw, and unsightly skin, and a risk of infection for several weeks after treatment. Other devices use the non-ablative method: sending light pulses into the dermis, while leaving the epidermis intact. This allows quick recovery, but when the light pulses don’t penetrate far into the dermis, the change in skin tone and texture is negligible.

What makes Fractional Non-ablative Skin Resurfacing different?
The goal of fractional laser treatments is simple: replace damaged skin with new, fresh skin. Dr. Jerry Cooper performs Fractional Skin Resurfacing (ActiveFX and DeepFX) for patients throughout metro Atlanta, including Buckhead, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Decatur, Emory, Lilburn and Tucker, because it offers excellent results.
The primary targets of ActiveFX and DeepFX include:
- Fine lines and wrinkles of the face, especially around the upper lip, cheeks and forehead
- Crow's feet around the eyes
- Pucker marks (smoker's lines) and frown lines
- Brown spots and splotchy, uneven skin tone
- Scars, especially acne scars
What areas can I have treated?
Fractional Skin Resurfacing can be applied to any area of the body, including the face, chest, arms, legs and hands.
How does it work?
ActiveFX and DeepFX are laser procedures performed in a single treatment with minimal downtime. During the procedures, a high-energy beam of laser light interacts with the skin's surface, causing the upper layer to peel off and regenerate a layer of new, healthy skin. The laser also stimulates formation of new underlying collagen, which results in continued improvement in skin texture over time.
With ActiveFX and DeepFX, only a fraction of the skin's surface is treated, leaving small 'bridges' of untouched skin. This technique makes the healing process much faster and enables you to get back to normal activities sooner.
Why choose Fractional Skin Rejuvenation?
ActiveFX and DeepFX treatments produce a dramatic effect on the skin:
- Cause immediate collagen contraction
- Reduce wrinkes and fine lines, and soften deeper frown lines
- Noticeably improve skin tone and texture
- Stimulate new collagen formation and plumps the skin
The results of the treatments are dramatic and, with proper sun protection, can last for many years. Most effects of treatment become visible right away, whereas others - such as new collagen formation - build up gradually and result in continued smoothing over time. Therefore, most people continue to show improvement up to six months after the procedure.
How many treatments will I need?
This varies from patient to patient depending on the severity of the condition, your skin type and your desired results.
What is the treatment like?
First, the area to be treated is cleansed. A topical anesthetic ointment may be applied. Some fractional devices require the application of a blue dye to the treatment area. Other systems have a built in cooling device for a more comfortable treatment.
Then the fractional hand piece precisely reads the discreet contours of your skin treatment area. Your treatment is performed using a fractional hand piece gently guided across the skin delivering microbeams of infrared energy into the skin. After your treatment, your skin is washed off.
What should I expect after treatment?
After Dr. Cooper performs Fractional Laser Treatments, you may experience lingering redness, warmth, swelling, or tightness in the treated area, which fades within a few hours of treatment. Because the light pulses are confined to narrow columns in the skin, much of the skin is left unaffected and there is a quick healing process; most people notice positive changes in skin tone and texture within a few days.
